FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

Here is a list of frequently asked questions (and their answers!).

  • What exactly will this course teach me?

This event planner video course will teach you everything you need to know to start your career.  I start off with an overview of the industry, explain the roles and positions in which you might find work, the types of events, and teach you the lingo.  I explain how events are structured in terms of the client, vendors, and you; and the various relationships you might have with your clients.  I explain what you might be doing wrong on your resume and cover letters, and how exactly to fix it using what I've taught you.

And that's just in the first two steps!  The third step is the "crown jewel" of the course; the Event Planner Course.  This consists of ten extensive, instructional modules that teach you, step by step, how to plan events; from the initial RFPs, to site selecations, and through to working with venues, vendors, entertainment and VIPs.  I talk about decor, food & beverage, audio-visual, and the importance of "flow."

Basically, I teach you every single thing you need to get your career started.  Of course you will learn much more from hands-on training and experience; but this information will lay a foundation to your career that will catapult you toward success more quickly than you ever imagined!

  • How is this course different than other courses out there?

Most other online event planning courses are filled with fluff and filler to convince you, a beginner, that you're getting a lot of great information.  However, what they don't tell you is that most of what they teach you is useless.  As long as they market it correctly, how would you know?  After all, you don't know the industry (yet), so there's no way for you to know what to look for.

I have a few things I suggest my readers be cautious of when investigating whether a course is worth their time:

1. Any course that combines wedding planning in with generic event planning.  In the industry, they are different; in the way you wouldn't group together a surgeon with a family doctor.  One is not better than the other, just different.

2. Any course that focuses on "party planning."  Party planning encompasses kids' birthday parties, holiday parties, anniversary parties.  While being a party planner is a legitimate goal, in today's economy it is nearly impossible to make a living doing what most people feel they can do themselves.  I focus on corporate meeting and event planning because it is more consistent, reliable, and you can make a living at it.  As I always say, Microsoft has a bit bigger budget for a corporate meeting of 2000 people than Mrs. Jones down the street has for her five year-old's birthday party.

3. Any course that promises that you can start your own event planning business by the end of their course.  This is insane, unethical, and illogical; but they tell you this because it's what you want to hear.  Please understand that it is in your own best interest not to start a business in something you've never done.  It won't take long for you to gain the experience you need to start your own business; but you can't do it just by taking an online course.

My course focuses on teaching you the basics of planning special events and corporate meetings, events, and incentives.  It might not sound as glamorous, but it can be; and more importantly, you can make a very good living with this as your specialty, as opposed to weddings and parties.

And finally, my course costs a fraction of what other courses charge.  Sure, their courses might be fancier, sleeker, "sexier;" but again, filled with fluff.  I know that your time and money are too valuable to waste either; so I get to the bare bones of what you need to know.  One of the most well-advertised courses out there charges $1200 for wedding planning, party planning, and how to start your own business; my course costs one-fourth that and teaches you what you truly need to know to start planning your first events.

  • How does it work?

The Complete Event Planner Toolkit is hosted online; so that you can take the course at your own pace, on your own time.

After you pay for the course, you can log in via this website, and access the course.  It is broken into fourteen modules, with presentation videos that last between 40 and 75 minutes.  There are also a large number of PDF documents you can download and print to supplement your learning experience; such as sample contracts, RFPs, sample budget grids, room diagrams, and so on.

  • Will I get certified?

This is another great myth that many "certification" courses try to sell you.  The reality is, the only event planning certification that means anything to anyone in the industry is the CMP (Certified Meeting Professional); and you can't even apply to take the test until you have 3-5 years of experience.  Any other certification is just another attempt to sell you a course.

If you are considering taking a course that sells a certification course to beginners, call a few meeting or event planners and ask them if that certification would help you get a job.

Therefore, no; I do not offer a "certification" because I don't want to sell you false hopes that a title or piece of paper will guarantee you a job, when it won't.  Instead, I offer you knowledge needed to start your career.

I do, however, offer a Certificate of Completion.  This is a certificate that confirms that you did take the course and pass the test.   You can use this on your resume, and you can give my information to future employers so that they can contact me to discuss exactly what the course covers, as well as ask your final grade.

  • Is it accredited?

No, unfortunately the process to get a course accredited is very lengthy and expensive; and I wanted to keep this course as affordable as possible for you.

  • Do offer any kind of guarantee?

I offer a full, 100% money-back guarantee within 30 days of purchase, and assuming you've only watched the first one or two videos.  I want you to be happy with your purchase and understand that investing in anything online is intimidating.  If you're not happy for any reason, I will refund your money completely!

What I do NOT guarantee is your success.  I can promise you that I give you every tool that I can think of to begin your career, and offer step-by-step guidance to help you along the way.  However, the rest is up to you. I can promise that if you apply everything I teach you, your chances of success are a million times better than anyone out there who doesn't take the time or the effort to learn the basics.  Just taking this first step of signing up for the course shows you have what it takes; let me help you succeed!
